COACHING STAFF
Matt Seney
Head Coach
Coach Seney joined W-L Hockey midway through the club’s second season in 2008-09 and became the head coach starting with the 2009-10 season. Over the years, he has helped build the club into one of the top high school programs in the state by cultivating the fun, unique experience of high school hockey while aiding and supporting the skill development of players looking to advance to the next level.
Originally from Sylvania, Ohio, Matt played Tier I youth hockey before starring at his local high school. He went on to play in the Central States Hockey League (now part of USPHL Premier) for the Toledo Cherokee, helping the club win the 1998 Junior B National Championship (now known as Tier III).
In addition to coaching W-L, Matt coaches his daughter’s 8U team and also serves as an East Coast Regional Scout for the Toledo Cherokee. He holds a USA Hockey Level-4 coaching certification.
Rob Stewart
Goalie Coach and General Manager
Coach Stewart brings nearly 20 years of coaching experience to W-L Hockey. Since 2010, he has served as a Coach, General Manager, and the President of the W-L Ice Hockey Club.
Rob specializes in developing goalies. His instruction has helped several Generals excel in the net, including two earning First-Team All-CSHL honors, and his son, Matt Stewart (class of 2014), setting the club record for career wins (21) before advancing to play several years of Junior hockey.
In addition to W-L, Rob has coached Nova Ice Dogs Travel and House teams from Mites through Midget age groups, since 2001. Currently, he is the head coach of the Ice Dogs U18 CCHL Patrick Division champions.
Rob holds a USA Hockey Level-4 coaching certification.
Charlie Liebschutz
Coach
Coach Liebschutz adds nearly a decade of coaching experience to the club. He joined W-L Hockey in 2009 and specializes in coaching and managing the defense.
Originally from Pittsford, New York, Charlie began playing hockey when he was eight years old, excelling at the sport and working his way up to the Tier I travel level. He played his high school hockey in Pittsford and served as the team captain his senior year. Coincidentally, his high school was the first-ever coaching job of hockey legend Don Cherry.
Charlie holds a USA Hockey Level-3 coaching certification.
